John F. Schopfer Joins Sterne Agee’s Public Finance Group as Head of Northeast Municipal Banking

Birmingham, AL (June 12, 2008) John F. Schopfer has joined the New York City office of Sterne, Agee & Leach, Inc. as Managing Director and Head of Northeast Municipal Banking. Trained initially as a bond counsel, Mr. Schopfer brings 28 years of experience to the firm with banking expertise in tobacco securitizations, solid waste and IDB financings, project finance, power-based and waste-to-energy financings, privatizations and public-private partnerships. Mr. Schopfer joins Sterne Agee from Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., where he was a Managing Director.

Sterne Agee has served as senior or co-senior manager on $188 million in par amount and co-manager on an additional $25.3 billion in par amount in the Northeast since 2000. In addition to its New York City office in Grand Central Tower, Sterne Agee maintains offices in Boston, Bernardsville, NJ, Philadelphia, and Portland, ME and additional public finance offices in Birmingham, Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta and Macon, Georgia. During the last 12 months, Sterne Agee has served as senior or co-senior manager on issues throughout the country totaling $351.3 million in par amount, co-manager on $5.4 billion in par amount and an additional $12.1 billion in par amount as a selling group member.
